Blizzard Revives StarCraft Shooter Ambitions with New Project

Blizzard Entertainment is developing a new shooter set in the StarCraft universe, according to Jason Schreier’s book “Play Nice” and an IGN podcast. Dan Hay, veteran developer of Ubisoft’s Far Cry series, leads the project.

Third Time’s the Charm?

This marks Blizzard’s third attempt at a StarCraft shooter. Previous efforts include:

1. Ghost (2002-2014): Announced, put on hold, and eventually canceled.
2. Project: Nova (2016): A story expansion within StarCraft 2, featuring Nova as the protagonist.
3. Ares (rumored 2019): A shooter codenamed Ares was allegedly canceled.

New Beginnings

Details on the new shooter are scarce, but Hay’s involvement sparks optimism. He also worked on Odyssey, a canceled survival project. The move coincides with StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft 2: Campaign Collection’s arrival on Game Pass.

A New Direction for StarCraft?

Blizzard’s renewed focus on the StarCraft universe raises questions:

– Will this shooter succeed where predecessors failed?
– How will it differentiate itself from other FPS titles?
– Will it integrate with existing StarCraft lore or introduce new storylines?
