Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Campaign ‘Disc Required’ Error Asks for MW2 PS4 Disc

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 campaign is now available to play for those who preordered the game, but a bizarre error is throwing a spanner in the works.

The Modern Warfare 3 campaign is showing an error to some PlayStation 5 players that, bizarrely, asks for the PlayStation 4 disc of last year’s Modern Warfare 2. IGN’s own Simon Cardy has experienced this error, and provided the screenshot below.

The problem seems widespread enough that Activision has said it’s investigating: “We’re investigating an issue causing some Players to encounter a ‘disc required’ error. Standby for updates,” the company said.

Also today, Activision explained Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3’s huge file sizes, warning they’re bigger than last year.

The Modern Warfare 3 campaign was developed by Sledgehammer Games in partnership with Infinity Ward, and is the direct sequel to last year’s Modern Warfare 2. It includes 15 missions, each of which rewards players with items upon completion. These rewards can be used across Multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone.

Modern Warfare 3 launches proper November 10. It’s the first Call of Duty game to launch following Microsoft’s $69 billion buyout of Activision Blizzard, but don’t expect it to hit Game Pass until 2024.
