A polished, more immersive experience is coming—just a little later than planned
Fans of the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy will have to wait a bit longer to don Agent 47’s iconic suit in virtual reality. Developer IO Interactive has announced that the PS VR2 version of the stealth-action trilogy will now launch on March 27, 2025, instead of its original December 2024 release date.
The delay, while disappointing, comes with good news: the extra time will allow for additional polish and the inclusion of exciting new features, such as active manual reloading, making the virtual assassination experience even more immersive.
Why the Delay?
In a statement on the PlayStation Blog, IO Interactive explained their reasoning:
“Our priority will always remain to deliver an amazing experience that meets the high standards our players expect. The additional time will not only allow our team to polish the game, ensuring every aspect is refined, immersive, and seamless, but also to add a few extras that we really wanted to include in this PS VR2 version.”
What’s New in the PS VR2 Version?
This isn’t just a straight port of the Hitman trilogy for VR—it’s a reimagined experience designed to take full advantage of PS VR2’s hardware. Here are some standout features to look forward to:
1. Enhanced Interactions
- Positional Gameplay: Players will mimic physical actions, such as pouring poison into a drink or swiping a keycard, rather than simply pressing a button.
- Physical Quest Items: Interact directly with tools and objects, from unlocking doors to inspecting items in your hands.
2. Dual-Wielding and Room-Scale Gameplay
- Engage enemies or complete missions with dual-wielding weapons and navigate expansive levels using room-scale movement.
3. Active Manual Reloading
- Reload weapons manually, adding a layer of realism and tension to high-stakes situations.
4. Full Trilogy Content
- Includes all main levels from the rebooted Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy, offering hours of replayable content in immersive VR.
Affordable Access
The game will launch as a $10 paid upgrade for players who already own the flatscreen version of Hitman: World of Assassination on PS5.
The Wait for March 27, 2025
While the delay pushes back its release, it’s clear IO Interactive is committed to delivering a top-tier VR experience that truly immerses players in the world of Hitman. From physically swiping keycards to dual-wielding in high-stakes combat, Hitman: World of Assassination for PS VR2 promises to set a new benchmark for stealth games in virtual reality.
