According to Austin Kelmore, IWGB chair, “The games industry has reached a tipping point. After another year of battling layoffs, workers are realizing change is urgently needed.” Kelmore highlighted exploitation, lack of fair pay and job security as pressing concerns.

The manifesto calls for:
– Union recognition and better working hours
– Fair compensation, including annual pay increases and equitable profit shares
– Accountability and transparency from C-suite executives
– Improved job security and contractual protections

The UK game development sector faces significant challenges, including layoffs, studio closures and exploitation. The IWGB Game Workers union has seen substantial membership growth from December 2022 to December 2023.
