Sony Cancels Two Unannounced Live Service Titles

Sony has confirmed the cancellation of two unannounced live service projects, developed by Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, following a recent review. Despite this decision, the company emphasized its commitment to creating both online and single-player gaming experiences.

Official Statement from Sony

In a statement reported by Bloomberg, a Sony spokesperson said:

“Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams who are valued members of the PlayStation Studios family, and we are working closely with each studio to determine what are the next projects.”

Sony reassured that neither studio would be closed, although the impact on employees and the possibility of layoffs remain uncertain.

Support for Studios

Sony expressed its commitment to mitigating any potential disruptions caused by the cancellations. In a memo obtained by Bloomberg, the company stated:

“We are working closely with Bend and Bluepoint and plan to do everything we can to ensure there is minimal business impact.”

Background on Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games

  • Bluepoint Games: Acquired by Sony in 2021, the studio specializes in remasters and remakes of classic titles, including Uncharted, God of War, and Demon’s Souls.

Recent Challenges in Sony’s Live Service Strategy
