Ubisoft France Staff Ordered to Return to Office, Union Calls for Strike

The French Video Game Workers Union (STJV) has called for a strike at Ubisoft’s French operation, citing a disputed return-to-office order and pay dispute. Ubisoft management has mandated a three-day weekly return to office for all employees without consulting workers’ representatives.

Union Demands

The STJV demands:

1. Formal remote work agreement
2. 60% profit-sharing restoration
3. End to alleged gender pay gap
4. Higher increases for low salaries

Background

This strike follows failed profit-sharing negotiations and a previous strike in February, where 700 staff protested for better wages. Ubisoft faces internal investigations, disappointing sales (Star Wars Outlaws), and delays (Assassin’s Creed Shadows).

Union Statement

“Games exist thanks to workers’ labor, and good games thanks to good working conditions… We invite all Ubisoft staff globally to mobilize.”

Strike Details

– Date: October 15-17
– Location: Ubisoft France offices

Ubisoft Response

Ubisoft declines to comment.

Industry Impact

This dispute highlights tensions between game developers and management. As the gaming industry evolves, worker rights and conditions remain a pressing concern.
